Original Oil Paintings and Watercolors

Hello and thanks for visiting!
I was born in the late 1950's in El Paso, Texas. My earliest recollection of my mother was her pursuit of artistic endeavors in drawing, music and poetry. I can not remember my father, who was in the US Army and died in December 1958, about 2 months after I was born. My mother was pressed to put her creative endeavors on hold, working full-time while raising 4 children and putting herself through college. One night I told her how much I liked the illustration from Sleeping Beauty where the Prince is at the edge of a cliff battling the flames of the evil Dragon. In the morning, I saw she had re-created that illustration in oil pastels. It is the influence of my mothers creative abilities and work ethic that motivates me.

I attended the University of Texas at El Paso where I took oil painting classes with instructor John Hogan that exposed me to professional techniques and production. I graduated in 1982 with a BA degree in Mass Communication, and followed a career path in graphic design and publication production. I have always kept an ongoing painting in progress and completed post-graduate courses at the University of Colorado in Denver in oil painting with John Hull. I have completed some large commissions (6 feet by 5 feet) per specific requests and though I have painted many canvases over the years unfortunately I do not have images of them all as they were gifts, donations, commissions and/or tranferred ownership as the paint was still drying.

In 1987 I relocated to the suburbs near Denver, Colorado. I continue to evolve and experience things that motivate me, looking for new beautiful ways to reflect our world and emotions. That said, I also draw limitless inspiration in the spirit of the masters who captured moments in history prior to the invention of the camera. While I continue to produce oil paintings, ongoing projects include creating illustrations for a childrens book about a tree frog and learning more about web design and animation.
